VAT News has learned that a Gatinois was arrested this weekend and charged with murder not premeditated of a young woman, Adrienne McColl, found dead, 16 years ago, almost to the day, south of Calgary.

Stéphane Parent, age 49, has been arrested Saturday morning by police officers, in the middle of the street, while he was at work and then be taken to the police station of Gatineau. His lawyer, Me Jean-Pierre Rancourt, confirmed to TVA News that a Parent has been accused of murder not premeditated, Saturday, in the framework of a video appearance.

Me Rancourt indicated that there was a warrant for the arrest of Stéphane Parent. “He appeared before a judge who was in Montreal. The latter was ordered to send him to Alberta. He will leave Monday for Calgary and is scheduled to appear there Tuesday.”

A week ago, the RCMP had issued a press release to remind everyone that the February 17, 2018 marked the sad anniversary of the death of Adrienne McColl, a victim of murder and found dead in the field of a farmer, five miles outside of Nanton and approximately 85 kilometres south of Calgary.

The young woman, who was 21 years old at the time, had been seen alive for the last time around Valentine’s day in 2002.

“The police are investigating this homicide since the day the body of Adrienne was discovered by a farmer who kept a herd and investigators spare no effort in order to be able to accuse the person or persons responsible for his murder. New technologies allow to derive new information evidence related to this matter. This new information has already led to the progress of the investigation through means that did not exist before the arrival of the new technologies. The investigators hoped to be able to present soon the evidence in court during the trial of the person or persons who have murdered Adrienne McColl was 16 years ago,” wrote the RCMP.

“My son is innocent,” declared the mother

Joined by TVA News, Carole Richer Beaucaire says that his son is innocent and does not believe he could have committed this murder. “My son is innocent. It’s been 16 years and now, they claim that they have evidence. What is the evidence? He has always denied that he was guilty. My son worked as a manager in a sports bar in Calgary and it is there that he meets Adrienne. They dated for a little over a year. My son had wanted to help the young woman by giving her a job as a bartender, because she didn’t like his work as a dancer on the second floor of the establishment. Stéphane has a big heart and he always tried to help everyone,” said Ms. Richer Beaucaire.
