A couple of Indiana will retain bitter memories of their trip to Florida, during which they discovered that the host of their rented accommodation on Airbnb the spying using hidden cameras.

It all started when Derek Starnes has noticed a small hole in the smoke detector in his room. He then immediately contacted the police.

“We have seized a lot of hardware to store data,” says lieutenant Bob Bourque, of the police of Longboat Key.

Mr. Bourque said that the suspect, Wayne Natt, had his condo for rent on Airbnb for two years and that there could be hundreds of victims. Nowhere in the description of the housing it was mentioned that the place was monitored by cameras.

When the police searched the home, they found two cameras hidden in smoke detectors. The cameras allow recording of video in high definition and high quality.

The lieutenant of police reports that Wayne Natt told investigators that all the world knew that hidden cameras were in his home to film festivals of a sexual nature.

“He said it was to save sexual activities,” said Bob Bourque. His only answer is that it gave her a better angle. But if people consent to record their sexual activities, why hide the cameras in smoke detectors?”

For his part, Derek Starnes is confident that the camera recorded while he was naked in his room. He wondered now where the video is located.

The suspect has been formally accused of voyeurism. He was released pending further court proceedings, but he did not want to answer the questions of the journalists.

In a press release, the executive of Airbnb, said to be “outraged” by this event and said that the man was permanently banned from its platform.
