LAC-MÉGANTIC | A man suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s hosted at the CHSLD Lac-Mégantic would have been ill-treated by five employees at the time of taking a bath, argued that the girls of the victim.
According to what people have told Céline and Guylaine Roy on VAT News, their father was a victim of abuse in January last, when he would have shown the resistance at the time of taking a bath. Five orderlies would then have united their efforts to master it, up to direct the spray of the shower head toward his face to force him to swallow a drug.
“A gesture like this, it is unacceptable. My father has had bruises, lacerations and he even refused to eat,” said Céline Roy, taking care to specify that “these are not all of the employees, far from it, which act like that”.
“The victim, that the breeze physically and mentally, but there are effects in the families also,” she added, with tears in her eyes.
The five employees of the NURSING homes have resulted in suspensions ranging from moderate to severe in the wake of this event. They were still not back at work, Tuesday, assured the CIUSSS of the eastern Townships.
“We will ensure that all persons who become reintegrated into the work, among the five that have been sanctioned, to have a framework,” said the coordinator of communications of the CIUSSS, Annie-Andrée Emond.
This last took advantage of the occasion to “reiterate this regret, our apology, to the family.”
The spokesperson for the Council for the protection of the sick, Paul G. Brunet, believes that it is not necessary to put all the handlers in the same basket. “There are always a few fools who stand [in NURSING homes], and who commit the irreparable”, he lamented.
Me Brunet believes that Quebec should do more to protect the customers of the CHSLD. “[The government] has enacted offences for those who mistreat animals, but it still adopts a crime-for those who abuse the elderly”, he denounced.
