The veterinary doctors of Quebec, hoping to sterilize 1000 cats stray or abandoned in the framework of the 6th edition of the national Week of spay / neuter.

The initiative of the Association of veterinary surgeons in practice for small animals is designed to educate the public and elected municipal officials, the effectiveness of sterilization as a means of controlling the animal population. The operation has a direct impact on the number of dropouts and euthanasia, says it is.

The week will take place from 25 February to 3 march 2018. Good year, bad year, more than 200 veterinary clinics across the province are taking part in it by offering spay / neuter at low prices or by free this for animals without owners.

In Quebec, where there are 30 000 stray cats according to the Movement stray Cats, the organization has joined its voice to that of the humane Society (SPA) to request the participation of the largest number of clinics.

“We invite them to get creative again this year to raise public awareness of the importance of sterilization and to advance the cause,” it said in a press release the spokesperson of the SPA of Quebec, Felix Tremblay.

The two organizations also invite the provincial government and the municipal elected officials to “enact laws and regulations encouraging and promoting spay / neuter in Quebec, particularly in animals that are stray or living in shelters”.
