MONTREAL | The project of the mayor of Montreal’s Valerie Plante to close the path Camillien-Houde, which runs through the mont Royal, just to pass the test of public opinion. More than 10 000 opponents of the project have signed a petition.
The mayor of the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal and in charge of major parks, Luc Ferrandez, has been criticized his positions are anti-motorists, by the opponents, Monday, at city hall.
“It is ignored, said Jennifer Crane, who lives near the path Camillien-Houde. It is well known that Mr. Ferrandez does not like cars!”
Jennifer Crane, who lives on the mountain in the neighborhood of Côte-des-Neiges, has added his voice to the 10,000 people who have signed the petition.
“This is unacceptable!”
The decision of the administration Plant to prohibit the movement of transit will complicate considerably the displacement of thousands of motorists.
“We have to find other access, such as Côte-Sainte-Catherine, or the avenue of Pines. This is unacceptable, launched Ms. Crane! There is hardly anyone who is in favor of it.”
Another petition, this one in favour of closing the road to motor traffic, has collected much less signatures, which is about 700 names.
New public consultation?
The opposition at city hall called on Monday a new public consultation, even if the administration Plant replied that there have already been two in recent years.
“The administration has acted precipitously. They have made their decision without any consultation,” said the leader of the official opposition of Montreal, Lionel Perez.
Some 10,000 motorists per day on this road. The loss of the trip this spring does not leave indifferent the mayor of Côte-des-Neiges, a member of the team of Valerie Plant.
“At first, I was skeptical, too, has confessed to Sue Montgomery. But I had an appointment with Luke in the past week and I am reassured. Then, we will add a bus between Côte-des-Neiges and Plateau-Mont-Royal, so that all people could get to the mountain.”
