SHERBROOKE | A policeman’s shameful to admit that he had failed his training to use the radar to laser to cause her panic attacks gave 523 statements of offence for speeding, without having the right.
Officers of the Sûreté du Québec, Sébastien Grenier, was not presented in 2008 at a training on the use of the speedometer to the laser (radar) because he feared to live a panic attack in front of his colleagues. The police officer said that he was sick.
“In principle, there was nothing stressful. (…) It is foolish, but I didn’t feel able to go there”, he testified to the submissions on sentencing, Friday, at the courthouse of Sherbrooke.
He lies to his superior
From June 2011 to October 2013, Sébastien Grenier has used this type of radar to give 523 notices of infraction for speeding.
The police officer pleaded guilty last December at the palais de justice de Sherbrooke, for having produced false documents.
He is suspended with pay, but there are likely to be laid off at the end of the legal procedures, under the police Act.
Mr. Grenier had been transferred to the post highway of the eastern Townships, Sherbrooke. Upon his arrival, he has lied to his superior Claude Blouin, stating that he had received training on radar and laser.
Mr. Blouin had tried to validate the word of Mr. Grenier to the human resources of the SQ, but there was never a follow-up. In addition, the software that recorded the training of the staff of the SQ was not reliable at this time.
According to Mr. Blouin, the police worked well and gave more tickets than the average. However, he was often absent.
Mr. Blouin has already visited the home of the police officer because the latter was in a fit of tears and he had to take her to the hospital.
Some observations cancelled
The patrol boat 45-year-old admits today that he would not have had to use the radar to laser, without the training. Without excusing the gesture, he said that he used it properly.
According to the Crown prosecutor, Geneviève Crépeau, multiple statements of offence in question in this case had already been paid. Those for which the guilty plea had not yet been registered have been cancelled.
The Crown takes about six months of detention, with probation, while the defence wants to rather a conditional discharge.
