The collapse of a tent in a horse riding center of Mirabel has caused the death of a young rider 26-year-old earlier this week and there is every reason to believe that the weight of the snow on the structure is concerned.

The structure, in which there were people and horses at the time of the tragedy, collapsed last Thursday evening after 18 h. An emergency call was made shortly after, and when police officers, firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene, they found that a rider of 26 years was still trapped under the rubble.

“The police, as well as the owner, with the help of a small tractor, have tried to raise the structure to identify the victim, what has been done. At this time, the rider was unconscious. The maneuvers were practiced until his arrival at the hospital in Lachute,” says the inspector to the force of the police de Mirabel, Nicolas Arbour.

The victim, Alexandra Gauthier, Laval, has been transferred to the hospital of the Sacred Heart, but died from his injuries the day after the event.

In addition, two horses had to be euthanized.

“Another rider took place on the second horse that was euthanized. He managed to get out in time. But it wasn’t for that he also is affected by the structure,” says Mr. Arbour.

In the stable DD Stable, Sunday, the owners, deeply affected by the recent events, did not wish to grant interview to the camera.

Same thing for the other people who were on site when the tragedy occurred. We tried to collect their testimonies, but out of respect for the family of this young woman who died, they have preferred not to deliver comments.

Any door to believe that the tent collapsed under the weight of snow. Is this a defect in the structure may have played a role? The police investigation, which is still in progress, should allow to make the light.
