RIVERVIEW, N.-B. – A man from Riverview, New Brunswick, who is awaiting a transplant of kidneys, encourages people to sign their organ donor card showing its condition in the rear window of his vehicle.
Dan McLaughlin, who is on the waiting list for over a year, wants to more quickly find a donor. His condition deteriorated rapidly last year and his kidneys no longer functioning at 10 %, approximately, according to his words.
“I can’t survive without dialysis, so I can do dialysis at home every day,” he told Global News.
His wife did the same advertising on his own car, to save his better half. “It is my life and we are not ready to give up,” said his wife, in an interview with Global News.
Mr. McLaughlin said to be inspired by a friend trucker in the United States. It was displayed on his truck that he needed a kidney. “It has come to have a kidney in that way,” he said.
Since he launched the initiative, which, he believes, can be used to other people waiting for a transplant, Mr. McLaughlin and his wife have received numerous messages of encouragement and the people have talked a lot about his situation on social networks.
The wait is long, but the McLaughlin cling to the hope of taking the wheel every day to do publicity for organ donation.
