PORT COQUITLAM, C.-B. | Eager to prevent other deaths, a veterinarian columbian has decided to publish the photo of a dog died after being forgotten in a car.

In a message posted on Facebook late Friday night, accompanying the photo, the staff of the veterinary hospital Shaughnessy in Port Coquitlam, east of Vancouver, British Columbia, was said to have the “broken heart” by the “preventable death” of the animal. “The family is distraught. Please, stop doing it,” added the veterinary hospital.

Quickly, several users have lamented about the situation, explaining that they have witnessed similar cases or by saying that the owners of the dog should be prosecuted for animal cruelty.

“This has been published as a reminder that it can happen to anyone. These are not bad pet owners […]. Pay attention when you cast the first stone”, said later to the staff.

In an interview with Global News, the owner of the veterinary clinic, Leah Montgomery, explained that the dogs are likely to suffer heat stroke very quickly when they are locked in a car in the sun.

“Of course, they pant because they cannot sweat and they only circulate the same hot air. Their system begins to let go. He is probably dead cooked in the car”, she explained.
