An 83 year old female considers that it must the life of a program call automated security that allowed him to get help quickly after having been the victim of a STROKE last month.
Since she lost the love of his life in the winter of 2016, Dove Vanier lives alone in her condo in Sainte-Thérèse, on the North Shore.
“I miss him a lot,” says the widow, the eyes in the water.
Although it is involved in many community activities and she has good friends, few are those who take the time to give him a call. It is for this reason that a woman who has never had children, is skin-deep when it speaks of the day of the 13th January last.
As she does every day, Ms. Vanier was lifted around 7: 30 and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. She has not had time to get there, since she was the victim of a cerebral vascular accident (STROKE).
When she fell, she cracked two ribs, which prevented her from rising. Around 8 a.m., the phone rang. It was the first automated call everyday of the PAIR program, a free service available to seniors in quebec.
As she has not responded to the first call, two others followed. Still no response.
Alert sent
It is at this time that the neighbor of the lady, that she had registered as a respondent, and who has a key to his condo, has been contacted by a servant of the 911. He discovered Ms. Vanier suffering and lying on the ground, shortly before 9 a.m.
“It saved me life, breath-t-it. I would have been able to stay in earth for a long time. In addition, I was treated quickly. I quickly removed a blood clot to the brain and I have less after-effects today. “
Even if it was eager to receive medical attention, Dove Vanier was reassured when his wait of less than an hour and a half.
“I heard the three calls, I knew that someone was going to come fairly quickly,” she recalls.
It is the agent Eric Huard, of the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville, who has convinced the octogenarian to register PAIR program during a routine visit in 2016.
“She had told me that her husband was in the hospital and that she was living alone for bit,” recalls the police officer. It was autonomous and well organized, I thought that the program would be perfect for it. “
When she enrolled, Dove Vanier was far from suspecting that she would save the life less than two years later.
Hospitalized for two weeks following his STROKE, the widow has received her leave, and begins quietly to resume his routine. The octogenarian, who keeps a good shape in spite of everything, is eager to participate in new dinners in the community of his association to seniors, to play cards with her girlfriends, to go see a movie or a piece of theatre.
