The international Association of students in economics and business (AIESEC) decided on Thursday to establish its international secretariat in Montreal.

With its 50 000 members are students and graduates, AIESEC is “one of the most important associations in the world,” according to Montréal International, which led the bid to montreal.

The quebec metropolis has been chosen ahead of other major cities in the framework of a tendering process.

“Montreal is known for its strategic location, its economic stability, its cost of living competitive and its urban environment safe. In addition, the student community is large and very active. Its distinctive characteristics perfectly meet the needs of our organization and our mandate,” said Niels Caszo, president of AIESEC, by issuing a press release.

Montréal International has stressed that the awarding of Montreal as “best university city in the world” by the organization QS has played in its favour.

For his part, mayor Denis Coderre was pleased that AIESEC moved its offices in Rotterdam, the netherlands, Montreal in 2018.

“AIESEC is an organization whose influence stretches across the world and which enjoys a consultative status with the economic and social Council of the United Nations Department of public information of the United Nations and of the standing committee of the United Nations Organization for education, science and culture (UNESCO). Montreal, as the best student city in the world is the logical choice for this organization and we are confident that his arrival will have a significant impact to the reputation and the attractiveness of Greater Montréal,” he mentioned through a press.

The metropolis has about 64 international governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations, according to Montreal International.
