An actor guilty of child pornography

    The actor québécois Paul Cagelet pleaded guilty of having downloaded tens of thousands of images of child pornography, including infants and productions sm.

    “Yes,” soberly said the actor of small size, when the judge Julie Riendeau asked him if he recognized the facts, Friday, at the palais de justice of Montreal.

    Cagelet, well-known for his roles in the movie Matusalem and the series of Cormoran, had downloaded all these images, as well as videos, on a sharing site similar to YouTube, as have explained to the lawyers in the court.

    But the actor, 52-year-old had been spotted by an american organization that fights against the exploitation of children. It had been found, and its coordinates had been transmitted to the us authorities. Seeing that the suspect was in Canada, the application was sent to the royal Canadian mounted police, and the police of Montreal.

    “The analysis of the computer equipment revealed that he had a lot of photos, depicting children, small babies up to teenagers,” said the prosecutor to the Crown Anne Gauvin.

    38 104 images

    In total, the police have found 38 104 photos, although more than half were duplicates. They also have found 290 videos with 34 duplicates.

    Several images and videos showed children aged 6 to 12 years of age in sexual activities, alone or with adults.

    The files showing babies or acts of child pornography and sadomasochism are believed to represent only a minority of everything that has been discovered in the hardware Cagelet.

    To return to the court Friday, Cagelet has decided to cut short the judicial process by pleading guilty to possession of child pornography, and accessing the illegal material. The charge of distribution of child pornography was withdrawn.

    Since his arrest, Cagelet has been in therapy. But he did not escape the prison, since the minimum sentence for the charges is one year of incarceration.
