SHERBROOKE – only a Few days after the deposit of the public report of the public Protector regarding significant deficiencies observed at the Brooks residence to Sherbrooke, former employees are calling for the closure of the establishment.

Exasperated by the dubious practices, negligence in security, and the poor quality of the services offered to the residents, some employees have chosen to resign.

“I would never want my parents reside at this place. The living conditions are unacceptable. The animals are often treated better than the residents,” said Nadia Lafrenière, who has worked for two years as a patient care attendant at the Brooks residence.

    Questionable practices common

The frequency of incidents would have convinced these workers to leave their employment. “When you realize that what really matters for the direction of it is the economy of money and not the safety and health of residents, you have questions”, underlined Jensen Poulin, a former employee.

According to him, gaps in terms of management would be many. “The owners have often taken the money out of the residents, in their bank account, to pay the suppliers of food. It was not rare that employees have received a check without the funds during our payroll,” he explained.

    Horror stories

According to some of the facts reported by these former orderlies, many of the residents have tried to end their days in this residence. “Beneficiaries who are still lucid wish to leave the facility or die, so you no longer have to pass their lives between these walls,” said Ms. Lafrenière.

Emotional, Jensen Poulin tells that he would have surprised a resident who was attempting to threaten his days in his room. “It is not uncommon for the paramedics to intervene there. It is terrible to see how these people are sad to reside there.”

    Investigation

The health authorities are currently conducting a survey to try to understand what is happening between the walls of this residence. A meeting is also planned to this effect on 14 September.
