SAINT-BASILE-LE-GRAND | citizens of Saint-Basile-le-Grand, in Montérégie, in calling for the improvement of the safety at the intersection of route 116 and the boulevard of the Millennium.

“It is a true crossing obstacles for a pedestrian. You have four lanes on one side and six lanes from the other while crossing from one side or the other you are in danger,” said Saturday morning the mayor of Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Yves Lessard, in an interview with TVA News.

Twenty citizens gathered Friday night at a vigil, organized by the municipal councillor independent Marilou Alarie. It was a gesture of solidarity towards the families of the two people who have lost their lives in recent months.

The objective was also to sensitize the authorities to the dangers faced by pedestrians crossing this intersection.

Two weeks ago, a man in his seventies was fatally struck at this intersection. Last August, a teenager of 17 years has also lost its life to this place.
