The Superior Court consolidated the three civil actions against the Canadian Pacific (CP) and the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic (MMA) in the folder of the tragedy train in Lac-Mégantic.
It is therefore possible to say that the class action, the government of Quebec and the insurance companies will be able to present evidence of a common responsibility and the role of the railway in the events of July 2013.
Recall that in may 2015, a class action was authorized against the railway undertakings to which the government is claiming $ 409 million and the insurers subrogated, to 13 million.
This decision to join the three applications will save the time and expense of experts.
The explosion of tank cars of the MMA in July 2013 killed 47 people in Lac-Mégantic. The CP is considered responsible for the heavy oil transported by this train, because she had the route from the american Midwest to the Atlantic provinces. The MMA, which went bankrupt, had been chartered by the CP to transport the fuel from Montreal to its final destination.
