The police of Quebec has proceeded Tuesday to the arrest of Malcolm smith, is the spouse of Catherine Root-Ouellet, a mother of a family found dead in Lac-Beauport, last fall. He has been accused of interfering with a corpse and obstructing justice.

Even if the relatives of the victim say they are relieved from this arrest, they hope to have more explanations about the drama.

“It is sure that it encourages us, we are happy that there is finally something happening, that there are charges and that justice is done. But at the same time, we live in sadness and grief, because the biggest things in this death, it is because we do not know of what she died, that’s really the hard part,” said Vanessa Root-Lafleur, sister of the victim.

In march 2016, Catherine Root-Ouellet would have given birth to the third child of the couple with the help of her spouse at a residence in Lac-Beauport. After childbirth, she would be dead, but her baby survived.

Malcolm smith, is the spouse of Catherine Root-Ouellet, is then interrogated several times. It was finally in November 2016 as the young woman’s body was found.
