The political analyst Luc Lavoie has not committed any criminal offence according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Mr. Lavoie was the subject of an investigation after the statements which had raised the controversy in the show “The Game” in LCN, last October 3.

“After an analysis of comments and have met the interested party, the SQ came to the conclusion that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that a criminal offence has been committed,” said sergeant Daniel Thibodeau at VAT New.

“The direction of TVA Nouvelles and LCN has taken note of the decision of the SQ, which, following its investigation, deciding not to submit the complaint against Luc Lavoie, the Director of criminal and penal prosecutions”, said Tuesday the vice-president of Communications, Quebecor media and TVA Group, Véronique Mercier.

“The directorate will not issue any further comment, because she wants to meet Mr. Lavoie over the next few days”, she added.

During the show “The Game” on 3 October, when there was question of a debate in the national Assembly on the hunting of squirrels, Luc Lavoie had said, on the tone of the joke, that he would have “liked to be able to hunt for separatists.”

His remarks had a reaction of many viewers and internet users.

The same evening, Mr. Lavoie had apologized on his account Facebook for his “about to be unacceptable and stupid”.

“As soon as I said it, I knew it was offensive and heinous (…) To all those who have been wounded, I ask you to forgive me,” he wrote.

The next day, the management of TVA Nouvelles and LCN had wanted to say that the comments made by the analyst were “unacceptable”.

Luc Lavoie has been removed from the air since.
