In this winter solstice, the time of sunshine will be the shortest of the year, Thursday, so that it will shine on the south of Quebec for 8 h 42 in this first official day of winter.

It is 11: 28 am that the winter season will begin. The sun will rise at 7: 32 sunset at 16: 14.

The day will be cold while the mercury will oscillate between a minimum of -11 °C and -15 °C. The sun will be present in the beginning of the day, but the clouds should capture the major part of the sky in the course of the afternoon.

Environment Canada said Wednesday, as a low pressure system will fall on the southern regions of the province, Friday, but that a major storm was on the horizon. The extent of the storm should clear up during the day.

Nothing is sure yet for the weekend of Christmas, but “between Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the potential is very high to see the development of a major storm,” said Mr. Jean-Philippe Bégin, Environment Canada.

The freezing rain could fall Saturday for areas south of the river St. Lawrence, from Montreal to Quebec. Precipitation in the form of snow would accompany the major storm that may fall in Quebec.

It will be possible to know if this storm could actually fall as soon as Thursday.

Environment Canada invites the public to closely monitor weather reports in order to better predict the movement.
