SAINT-HYACINTHE | The choice of the Centre de congrès de Saint-Hyacinthe, located on land belonging to a company of the ex-treasurer liberal Marc Bibeau, for the holding of the national Council of the Parti québécois, a cause of some discomfort within the ranks of pq members.

At least that is what an activist has entrusted to our parliamentary Bureau in the scenes of the national Council of the Parti québécois, which ends today in Saint-Hyacinthe.

If it was up to him, he would never have accepted that the event be held on the grounds of the company to Mr. Bibeau.

When asked about it Sunday morning, the member pq Pascal Bérubé has first pointed out that the new Centre de congrès de Saint-Hyacinthe is managed by the municipality.

The field and the adjacent hotel, whose construction will be completed this spring, belong, however, to the Shopping Centres Beauward, a company chaired by Marc Bibeau, who has entered into a franchise agreement with the banner of the Sheraton and a long-term lease of 40 years with the City.

    Bibeau and the PLQ

“Listen, we don’t stop to come to Saint-Hyacinthe for it. It does not deal with Mr. Bibeau… that is the liberal Party,” said Mr. Bérubé, who has often been criticized in the past, the links between the LIBERALS and Mr. Bibeau.

This was particularly the case before the Holidays, after the Bureau investigation has revealed that Mr Bibeau had organized, in the early 2000s, sumptuous receptions, at which several ministers of the Charest government had found themselves, alongside important members of the business community.

The parliamentary leader of the parti québecois Pascal Bérubé had then said that the PLQ is a “training policy under the influence, that of Marc Bibeau”.

“There is a difference between being in Saint-Hyacinthe, where there are buildings that may belong to this person, and do business with Marc Bibeau, when one is prime minister of Quebec, when it is a political formation to power”, has qualified the member for Matane-Matapédia, on Sunday morning.

    A single-center congress

“Marc Bibeau is the owner of full cases” was dropped in turn the deputy of the parti québecois de Richelieu, Sylvain Rochon, denying any discomfort.

“Do you know of any other place in Saint-Hyacinthe who would have been able to receive such a large number of activists”, asked Mr. Rochon to journalists.

His colleague from the county of Verchères and deputy godfather of the Montérégie region, Stéphane Bergeron, for his part, knew nothing about it.

“Listen, you tell me, he confessed during a media scrum. I had not made an audit of the precise nature of the property in which we find ourselves. This is the new centre de congrès de Saint-Hyacinthe, it is a district goal, then I think it was mentioned that we find ourselves here.”

Mr. Bergeron acknowledged that this situation could give rise, among the militants, “a number of sensitivities”.
