But a new study by American scientists showed that in the wallet hides another danger, reports Rus.Media.

It turned out that more than 90% of the cheques and receipts contain chemicals that can cause infertility, autism and type 2 diabetes.

During the tests it was established that the hazardous substance called bisphenol a (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) found in 93% of the cheques and receipts, and just 2% of such paper products have no chemical coatings at all. The cashiers and other workers who deal with cheques and receipts are especially vulnerable to these chemicals, experts say.

Bisphenol A, which reacts with estrogen receptors and thyroid problems associated with infertility, autism, attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity, obesity, type 2 diabetes, premature birth and early onset of puberty. Concerns for consumer health have prompted producers to replace bisphenol bisphenola S, but following tests showed that this compound disrupts the development of babies in the womb. BPA and BPS are attached to checks and receipts to make the print darker without the use of ink. Also, these substances are often found in plastic water bottles and food containers.

According to information received, the cashiers can deal with dozens of checks and receipts for an hour. After the change, these workers have significantly higher levels of BPA and BPS in the blood. The concentration of hazardous compounds in the body increases to 10 times if the person has greasy or wet fingers, and in that case, if she recently used the tool to disinfect hands.
