The flagship stores of Montreal retailers fashion Dynamite and Garage are on the verge of closing, has learned of The Journal. Not less than 30 persons will therefore have to find a new job soon.

While the president and ceo of Groupe Dynamite, Andrew Lutfy, extolled the merits of his project of megacenter business Royalmount in front of the business community, Monday afternoon, employees from the city centre of the metropolis, learned that they would lose soon their employment.

The two flagship stores, located at 1111, rue Sainte-Catherine West, will close in the next few weeks.

“Yes, we farm “, confirmed Mr. Lutfy in the Journal.

This decision is due to the forthcoming end of the lease, and not by disappointing sales in these stores on the storefront on Ste-Catherine, according to the claims of the company.

The two chains of shops for teenage girls (Garage) and young women (Dynamite) will retain their stores of Eaton Centre, which is located not far away.

“We took the opportunity to transform and expand existing stores at the Eaton Centre,” said a spokesman.

“They will become the new flagships in the city centre, and thus benefit from a direct access to the metro,” adds Julien Baudry.

    Cuts in the fall

Significant job losses were occurring not later than the fall within the group Dynamite, according to our sources. Of headquarters employees have been thanked, and others, in the shops of the rue Sainte-Catherine, reportedly also hurt.

This time, however, Group Dynamite says it will help the employees to relocate.

“All the employees of the two stores concerned benefit from support by human resources” in order to find a job in another shop of the two brands.

“Every employee has been informed of this decision and all will be offered new career opportunities within the group,” says Baudry.

The Group that has the Dynamite ?

Based in Montreal, the Groupe Dynamite now has nearly 400 stores and employs about 6,000 people, most of them in North America.

The company achieves sales of $ 600 million per year. Its shops are to be found mainly in Canada, but the two brands are also present in the United States and the Middle East.
