Eight senior officials of the CIUSSS of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec have earned, during the year 2016, more money than the prime minister Philippe Couillard, learned VAT News, due to the Law on access to information.

Not surprisingly, the president-director general of the CIUSSS, Martin Beaumont, is the highest paid employee of the centre, built with an annual remuneration of 274 112 $. In comparison, the prime minister Philippe Couillard has been entitled to compensation of basic and additional 192 345 $ in 2017.

Figures obtained at the end of the day Tuesday, showing that Mr. Beaumont has obtained an increase of approximately $ 25,000, bringing his salary to slightly above the mark of 300 000 $.

The ex-director of professional services, Martin Beaumont, who is now retired, had touched 232 490 $ in 2016. His deputy, for his part, received 223 000 $, including its bonus.

The director of professional and hospital services was awarded a fee of 230 and $ 141, while the ex-director of public health has received a salary totalling 203 189 $.

In total, the pay of the eight highest paid employees of the CIUSSS totaled $ 1.75 million $ in 2016.

The wage bill should, however, be lower in 2017, while positions have been abolished, and that directors are now working part-time, said the CIUSSS.

“It is shocking to see what is happening there. […] Me, I invite Mr. Beaumont and senior employees of the CIUSSS to be reasonable and do the some doctors by saying, “we will lower our salary, we are going to give bonuses, to finally have adequate services to the population,” said Claude Audy, vice-president of regional Federation of health and social services (FSSS-CSN).

The representative trade union has also denounced that the direction of the CIUSSS had sent a letter to physicians in which she was concerned about the costs “exorbitant”, sick leaves of the employees.

“We have a shortage of 300 attendants. If it is account it to $ 30 000 per year, it made $ 9 million. There, we spend $ 36 million to heal the world who is sick. These people would not be sick if we got or if we had the adequate staff”, said Mr. Audy.

In addition, the CIUSSS has sent a letter to union representatives outlining a new policy on press relations. It would seem that they should ask the management’s permission before speaking to the media.

“If they want to impose the law of silence, they will find their way. We will continue to do what we do and to denounce,” responded Claude Audy.
