RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP | Two smokers of the company’s Containers KRT, Rivière-du-Loup, were only finally crushed after their boss had promised to give them $ 1000 if they stopped smoking for at least a year.

A year ago, discouraged to see that the third of his team was smoked, the CEO of the company, Martin Ouellet, decided to motivate its employees with money.
Six smokers had then decided to crush it.
Four of them have not smoked for six months, but have resumed. “This is not nothing, the guys have proven that they were capable of. As we saw at the outset, the fact of the stop as a whole was encouraging, but when one of them started, the other three have followed immediately,” observes Martin Ouellet.
Denis-Edward Michaud, an operator of the mechanical shovel who smoked half a pack a day for 37 years, has succeeded in not smoking for over a year and has therefore received 1000 $ in the last 12 months. The initiative of his employer has been the kick he needed to decide to quit smoking. “The personal pride I feel, to have been able to quit smoking, is without a doubt benefit the most concrete for me,” said the ex-smoker.
The second smoker that has crashed is the brother of the CEO, who is co-owner and vice-president of the company. Steve Ouellet smoked 25 or more cigarettes per day for more than 25 years. Inspired by its five employees who were participating in the Challenge I stop, I win! and in solidarity with them, he had decided to crush him too, with success. He decided to give half of his prize at the Fondation de la Maison Desjardins des soins palliatifs du KRTB.

The company has decided to make known the success of his challenge to those who do not believe that money is a source of motivation to stop and realize that they are wrong. The measure will be re-extended, “as long as there are smokers,” says Martin Ouellet. Two smokers, one of which had tried the experiment in 2017, have accepted the challenge so far.
