En route to the G7: the first contact between activists and police officers on 5 April

The protesters and the police officers will have the opportunity to actively exercise for the G7 Summit, the next week, while Quebec will host the first large companies to the Top business B7.

At the dawn of the G7 Summit, in June 2018, the Chamber of commerce will host the major firms in other G7 countries at the Top B7. The summit will mark the end of a process to develop recommendations for the leaders of the G7.

For the organisers of the event from Thursday, April 5, the message is not the same. “Behind closed doors, in a place held secret, the rich, the famous 1 %, are plotting to influence the G7 leaders”, can we read.

“We’re going to take advantage of the symbolism of all this to launch the mobilization. What will be the response, I have no idea,” says Marie-Eve Duchesne, of the popular Committee of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Activities planned between 7 and 10 June will be announced.

Also listed as the organizers, the REPAC 03-12 and the charity Water Aid want to provide details only before the activity.

A target

The gathering is planned in front of the Centre des congrès de Québec, at 16: 30 on 5 April. The participants should move to the meeting place of the B7 which remains unknown. “We would like to have the information. Otherwise, you have a plan B with a target,” added Duchesne.

In preparation for June, the police will closely monitor the activists who will be required to provide their itinerary. “We will maintain a level of security in the same way as usual. We need to follow more than 300 events annually. We have the expertise,” said the spokesperson Sandra Dion.

The business Summit B7 will be held in the capital on 5 and 6 April. The B7 is a gathering of business federations and representatives of sectors of business from each of the G7 countries.

It is not known whether the resistance Network anti-G7 (RRAG7) will be present on 5 April. The organization is actively preparing with the slogan “for Fair, prepare for war”.
