Fatal fire in Pointe-aux-Trembles

MONTREAL – A 68 year old woman has lost the life, in the night from Saturday to Sunday, the result of a fire in his apartment located in a residential building of four floors in the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles in Montreal.
According to preliminary information, the fire started around midnight in one of the dwellings of the building located on Sherbrooke street, near 51st avenue.
After having controlled the fire, firefighters discovered the body of a sexagenarian to the interior of the housing burned down. His death has been found on the site.
An investigation has been opened by the section of the arson of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
“The cause of the fire was due to smoking inside the apartment,” said Andrée-Anne Picard, spokesperson for the SPVM.
Investigators were on the scene in order to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances of the fire.
