Fire : eight families evacuated to Montreal

    MONTREAL | A-unit building was engulfed in flames, in the night of Monday to Tuesday,i on the avenue Bourbonnière in the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, forcing the evacuation of eight families.

    It was around 1 a.m. firefighters from the fire Department of the city of Montréal (SIM) are called to the scene, upon their arrival the flames are visible on the second floor, and a thick cloud of smoke escapes the building.

    The fire spread to the third floor, but firefighters were quickly able to subdue the flames preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.

    The families evacuated have been taken care of by the Red Cross.

    According to Ian Ritchie, chief of operations of the SIM, the damage would be valued at$100,000.

    A person has been overcome by the smoke.

    Everything indicates that the cause of the fire was accidental. The investigator of the SIM is on-site to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
