    A man in his fifties has been seriously burned Saturday afternoon when a fire in her apartment on the avenue Nicolas-Appert, in the district of Rivière-des-Prairies, in the north-east of Montreal.

    The man suffered third-degree burns to the upper body. He was rushed to the burn Unit of Hotel-Dieu to be treated. There was concern for his life.

    The man was alone in his apartment in the basement of a duplex when the fire broke out around 15: 30. It has been found on the site by the firemen who were quickly evacuated.

    The fire, which was mastered in an hour, made for about $ 50,000 in damage, according to the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM), who noted that the neighboring apartments had to be evacuated but that they have not suffered any damage. “People will be able to return to their apartments,” said John Primiani, chief operations SIM.

    In the late afternoon, Saturday, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
