OTTAWA | storms early in the month of April as well as spring flooding may have resulted in insured damage of more than 223 million $ in the two main provinces in canada, has informed on Friday, the insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).
The flooding of 5 to 7 may last year caused insured damage of more than $ 106 million. As a reminder, the torrential rains have caused major flooding in the eastern Ontario and Quebec. Up to 155 mm of rain fell in some areas.
Moreover, due to storms of 5 to 7 April in Ontario and Quebec, roads, residences and businesses were flooded, and the insured damage amounted to more than $106 million.
Based on data from the company Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc. (CatIQ), the oca stressed that climate change, ensure that “extreme weather events, especially storms that lead to flooding, occur more often and with increased intensity”.
“Of course, the insured losses due to floods in the spring are important, but we do not know currently the total cost for the owners and the government,” said Craig Stewart, vice-president, federal Affairs, IBC.
The figures broken down by province for the two episodes, however, were not available.
