QUÉBEC | minister of Health and social Services of Quebec, Gaétan Barrette, announced on Sunday an investment of $ 8.6 million to improve access to surgery, diagnostic exams and some cardiology departments.
The quebec government is hoping to reduce the waiting time for obtaining such medical care and services. The additional funds are for the addition of services by 31 march.
“The accessibility of the services offered by our network is one of the major priorities of our government, as we have clearly demonstrated over the past four years,” said Gaétan Barrette, by way of a press release.
“The blitz that we are announcing today is part of this same desire, and seeks to respond in a very concrete way, and targeted to the current needs of the users. I am confident that this initiative will help to reduce waiting lists and improve care and services for patients.”
An allocation of $ 2.5 million should allow to perform 1000 surgeries, according to the ministry of Health. In addition, $ 2 million will be allocated to diagnostic services and $ 4.1 million to the department of cardiology.
This is in addition to investments of $ 20 million announced by the liberals in November of 2016 to support the three targeted services.
