The Regroupement des Magasins-Partage de l’île de Montréal organizes a huge fundraiser, Thursday, in order to be able to provide school supplies to children in need, as part of Operation Backpack.

Since 2002, this initiative aims to raise donations of money to purchase school supplies and food to enable more than 4600 children from disadvantaged backgrounds get a good start to the year.

“How is it possible to fill the backpack of his children when there is not even enough money to do the grocery shopping? Too much of that hard-working parents, often at minimum wage, not to be able to simply no. It is not necessary that they have to choose between books, or lunch for their children!”, stressed Sylvie Rochette, co-founder of the Grouping, Sharing, in a press release.

On 24 August, the volunteers, wearing t-shirts green will be posted in different places of Montreal to collect these donations. They will be especially present in the metro stations Square-Victoria OACI, the Jean-Talon and Radisson.

In 2016, the Operation Backpack has raised more than $40,000.

The school supplies and food purchased with the donations will then be distributed in the 17 Magasins-Partage de Montréal for the children and their families to receive a backpack, school supplies, a lunch box, insulated, food, and other products of everyday consumption.
