According to WestJet, his plane arrived in Cancun with 168 passengers and six crew members on board, was stationary and waiting at the door, to the landing, when he “was struck by a plane Sunwing who left the door”.

“Because of the position of the aircraft on the tarmac, the customers of WestJet had to be evacuated by the slide emergency,” said WestJet on Twitter shortly after the incident, adding that emergency teams responded immediately. The operation took place while the mercury hovered around -20 degrees in Toronto, Friday night.

At 20: 36, always on Twitter, WestJet has stated that “all 168 passengers and six crew members have been counted”. “We can confirm that the passengers are at the terminal in safety and that they are in the process of passing through customs.”

Sunwing has, for its part, said that there were no passengers or members of crew in his plane, which was on the move, “towed by our service provider on the ground”.

According to internet witnesses to the incident, as well as toronto media, a fire is declared on board the aircraft to Sunwing, to the level of the tail, and was extinguished by firefighters dispatched to the scene. At the end of the evening, the airport authority Pearson has confirmed that a “small fire” was reported in the plane for Sunwing, and that it had been extinguished by the emergency services.

A member of the fire service and airport emergency has been taken to the hospital for treatment, but his health has not been made public.

The incident, which occurred in terminal 3, has been photographed and filmed by many witnesses of the event, the passengers, in the present instance.

The airport authority said some flights were affected at terminal 3, but that the other operations of the airport have not been impacted by this event.

For its part, the Office of the transportation safety board of Canada (TSB) has decided to send a team of investigators to the scene to gather information and evaluate the event.
