A barber of Laval has offered Sunday to have a haircut free of charge to migrants who wish to look good on their passport photo.

This is Kevin Calixte, a Montrealer to be very involved in the haitian community, which has launched an appeal on Facebook Saturday.

“With several other people, I try to pick up water, food, tampons, and diapers for the new arrivals, he says. And there he was, a migrant who has asked me if there was a barber shop not far away for his passport photo. I said to him : “I don’t know, but I can put an ad on Facebook !” “

Barely an hour later, Victor Castillo, owner of salon de barbier Caballeros, was voluntary. Sunday morning, he went to the residences of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where are housed many refugees.

    Expelled from UQAM

“I brought my equipment and I cut the hair of four or five people, says Mr. Castillo. They told me that they were glad to be here, in Quebec. There was a gentleman who has lived in the United States and Chile, and he said he lived a lot of discrimination out there. “

To 14 h, the hairdresser of 26 years was forced to put away his scissors, as he has been expelled by ” a manager who takes care of the migrants “, according to Kevin Calixte.

Despite this inconvenience, Victor Castillo was satisfied with his day, as his customers. “People were really happy !” he said.

This is not the first time that Mr. Castillo offers his services to help the needy. Last June, he and his team had settled near mont Royal to give a new face to the homeless.

“The people who need help, I was always struck,” he says. I can maybe not change the world, but if everyone puts their grain of sand like me, you can do something good. “

UQAM was not in a position, Sunday evening, to tell if the individual who removed the barber was one of his employees.
