The Québec will have the right to a taste of spring this week. The warm weather, combined with heavy rainfall, could contribute to increase the risk of flooding in many areas of the province.

According to Environment Canada, the mercury is expected to increase to or exceed 10 degrees celsius Wednesday in most regions of the south of the province, such as the greater Montreal region, Lanaudière, Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec, Capitale-Nationale, Chaudière-Appalaches, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. In the Outaouais and the eastern Townships, the thermometer may even reach these values as early as Tuesday.

This phenomenon is caused by the passage of a warm front from the center of the United States.

In addition, amounts of rain ranging between 20 and 30 millimetres could fall in the most of these areas between Monday evening and Wednesday.

“The rain added to the runoff due to the melting of the snow cover, could lead to flooding in places, one can read in the special bulletin from Environment Canada. The visibility could be reduced at times in the fog especially in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.”

    The freezing rain also expected

Warnings of freezing rain are also in effect for the regions of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches. The precipitation will move through these regions as soon as the next night until late Tuesday.

“The accumulation of ice will be 2 to 4 millimeters on the west of Quebec, but he could reach from 5 to 10 millimetres on the areas closer to the river,” says Environment Canada.
