MONT-LAURIER | The winds have blown off the roof of a house and caused other damages to Mont-Laurier in the Laurentides region, on Sunday afternoon, but no one was injured.

Six properties of the chemin du lac Nadeau have been damaged to 16h40. A house had the roof ripped off by winds, while the roof of another has been in part swept away.

“The residents have not been able to return to these two houses. They were supported by the Red Cross,” explained Mario Hamel, director of the fire department of the City of Mont-Laurier, in a telephone interview with QMI Agency.

He said that it is a micro-burst that hit hard the way to the lake Nadeau, which is located near to the north of the city centre.

“It really is located at this place. Elsewhere, it was only trees on the electrical network. It could have been worse. We have still been lucky,” said Mr. Hamel, who points out that municipal facilities are located nearby, such as the arena has not been really damaged by the winds.

Many homes in the area have lost power, but teams of Hydro-Québec are quickly put to work to restore power.
