Ms. Paquet attended the scene of the accident on the Main street (route 271), as well as several relatives of the victim, during a gathering in his memory yesterday. Several of them have placed flowers, stuffed animals and a photo of Anais at the place where everything changed on Thursday, in front of the hardware store.
A walking fatal
Anaïs Renaud has been caught fatally in the way to school Thursday morning.
The girl was walking to school on the Caravelle, located about 600 meters from the family home, along the shoulder of the road pedestrian on the edge of the Main street. From the school of Saint-Flavien, she took then the bus to get to his school in it, located in a nearby community, to Dosquet.
A car heading in a southerly direction suddenly crossed the road opposite to go and struck the schoolgirl, who was caught while she was walking with friends and her little sister.
“What marked me the most, is seeing all the despair in the eyes of his parents when they arrived,” says Amélie Turgeon, a mother of a family of the corner, finish among the first on the scene of the collision. Severely injured, Anaïs has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The driver involved, a woman of 31 years of Lyster, was arrested for criminal neglect causing bodily harm. The investigation is ongoing, and it is the prosecutor who will decide if charges should be brought.
School Transport
Several parents interviewed by The Newspaper have reported to have complained repeatedly to the Commission scolaire des navigateurs : they denounce the fact that families like that of Anaïs resident near the school (radius of 1.6 km in the case of a child of 6th grade) must pay $ 250 per child so that they can take the bus (this is called the principle of “vacant places” in the school boards), so that the place is dangerous.
“It was preventable, and they have been warned, loose Nadège Roy, mother of three children. It is so dangerous, it runs fast. This is ridiculous, and in addition there is a bus that goes there, and it is filled to the third party, ” says she.
“Me, I am a single mother and I do not have the means to pay $ 500 for two children. I’ve tried everything and they say that there is nothing to do. That would have to change, ” said Karine Laroche.
In response, the school Board has referred The Newspaper to a study in which she participated, in which recommendations are made to improve the safety of pedestrians on the Main street, under the responsibility of the ministry of Transport (MTQ). The latter has not been able to respond to questions from the Newspaper yesterday.
The mayor of the municipality confirms and regularly receive complaints related to the speed on this road the limit is 50 km/h. The repeated requests made to the MTQ to put in place “displays of speed teaching” have not been allowed, ” he says.
“We will continue the process. It has not abdicated, ” said Normand Côté, compassionate towards the family heartbroken.
