BAY-TRINITY | Two investigators of the Unité permanente anticorruption (UPAC) conducted on Tuesday a seizure of documents at Baie-Trinité, in Côte-Nord, in the framework of an investigation on the former municipal administration.
The new mayor of Baie-Trinité cooperates fully in the investigation. Contacted by TVA News, Marc Tremblay explained that, according to him, the UPAC is part of the solution to deal with the serious administrative problems which his municipality is facing.
The two investigators remained in the municipal offices during part of the day. They have made requests to obtain certain documents which they were not able to hand in their passage.
It would be the third visit to the investigators of the UPAC to the municipality of Baie-Trinité.
This search is particularly related to the management disorganized in the municipality in recent years.
A report from the ministry of municipal Affairs and land Occupancy, tabled last November, contains overwhelming findings. There is a state of a municipal administration in a state of chaos and the inability of the director-general to provide information about the financial situation of the municipality.
The report also points to a problem of tax collection. Many tax notices are in arrears for more than three years. The observer from the ministry has found a situation nebula surrounding a borrowing by-law for the work of aqueduct.
He also informed the municipality that it had to undertake steps with the former mayor, Denis Lejeune, to recover 18 of $ 500 that the City had paid in fees in the course of his trial for sexual assault against an employee of the council. These payments were illegal.
The new mayor of Baie-Trinité, Marc Tremblay, has started to do the cleaning. The director general of the municipality, which did not have the competence to hold the position, was laid off at the beginning of the month of December.
On the occasion of the meeting of the city council, Monday next, an accountant will explain the financial situation and an announcement will be made on the guidance intends to take the municipality to remedy the situation.
By then, the mayor prefers not to comment.
