OTTAWA | The astronaut quebec, Julie Payette was selected by the Trudeau government to become the next representative of queen Elizabeth II in Canada, confirmed to TVA News on Wednesday.
The woman 53-year-old, who has twice been in space (1999 and 2009), was until last October the director of the Montreal science Centre.
It would replace the current governor-general David Johnston from September 2017.
The prime minister Justin Trudeau would have suggested Ms. Payette to this position during his meeting with the queen in Scotland, reported Wednesday to The canadian Press.
Justin Trudeau will make the official announcement Thursday morning at Parliament in Ottawa.
