The prime minister Justin Trudeau arrived in India on Saturday, where he will pay an official visit over the course of the next week.

For this trip, Justin Trudeau was accompanied by his wife Sophie Grégoire and their three children.

The plane carrying the family Trudeau has landed at the Indira Gandhi international Airport, New Delhi.

“Canada and India enjoy a privileged relationship and are united by wonderful connections between their populations, said Mr. Trudeau by way of a press release. More than one million Canadians are of indian origin, and they make the relationship between our two countries really close. I’m looking forward to meet with the prime minister (Narendra) Modi and strengthen even more the friendship that exists between Canada and India.”

It will be a fourth meeting between the prime ministers Trudeau and Modi. Their last face-to-face took place last November at the Summit of the eastern Asia which was held in Manila, Philippines.

A stop at the Taj Mahal

Justin Trudeau and his wife will be travelling to Agra on Sunday to visit the Taj Mahal. Mr. Trudeau will then participate in a round table discussion with civil society leaders. During his trip, the canadian prime minister will also travel to Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

Mr. Trudeau will benefit from his stay in India to discuss with the officers of the indian government and business leaders. The empowerment of women, the tightening of economic ties between Canada and India, as well as the creation of jobs for the middle class will be on the order of the day.

With business people, Mr. Trudeau wants to promote trade and investment between the two countries. In 2016, the bilateral trade in goods between Canada and India reached $ 8 billion, while the bilateral trade in services amounted to $2.1 billion.
