The weeks are similar to the Montréal-Trudeau airport, while two new incidents involving laser pointers directed to aircraft have been reported in recent days, adding to the six that had taken place the previous week.

The problem is so important that the government could go up to supervise the sale of these objects seemingly harmless by prohibiting the sale of models the most powerful, or by affixing a warning.

Questioned about it earlier this week, the federal minister of Transport has lost patience.

“It’s been two years that we speak of the danger when someone points a laser at an aircraft; it can have catastrophic consequences. This is really something that people need to understand.

I don’t know if they are aware of the fact that if they point a laser into the cockpit of an airplane that is in the process of landing, this plane can crush. There may be hundreds of people on board,” responded Marc Garneau.

Point a laser towards an aircraft is a criminal act punishable by a maximum fine of $ 100,000 and a prison sentence of five years.

In total, 379 events of the kind have been listed in Canada last year, and 527 in 2016.
