MONTREAL | Several dignitaries attended on Sunday at the groundbreaking ceremony which officially launched the construction work of the new Maison de Radio-Canada.

“The future of the Maison de Radio-Canada will continue to be the place where our Radio-Canadians come together to create the fascinating things that move us, inform us, make us think and make us smile,” assured the president and ceo of CBC/Radio-Canada, Hubert T. Lacroix, in a statement released on the sidelines of the event protocol.

“As the national public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada plays a key role and is a key partner in our vision for the cultural and creative industries of Canada. […] This new building will allow CBC/Radio-Canada to continue to meet the needs of the audiences of the four corners of the country,” said minister of canadian Heritage, Mélanie Joly.

For his part, the mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre, has pointed out that the new building will contribute to the revitalization of the neighbourhood. “The new Maison de Radio-Canada will add to the economic vitality of the industry, but also the pride of all Montrealers,”-he said.

Located at the corner of Papineau avenue and the boulevard René-Lévesque est by the real estate group Broccolini, the new Radio-Canada building must be occupied by the public broadcaster at the beginning of the year 2020.

Radio-Canada announced in July the sale of its landmark tower for $ 42 million, $ 14 million less than the municipal evaluation.
