OTTAWA senators have eventually voted in favour of the legalisation of cannabis on Thursday evening, at the end of the day where the fate of bill C-45 seemed to be compromised.

The legislation was approved by 44 votes to 29. No abstention was recorded.

After several weeks of debate in the upper House since November last year, the bill will now be studied in committee, and then be the subject of a final vote at third reading.
