The city of Toronto is become on Tuesday the first municipality outside of the United States to accommodate the company’s carpooling Lyft, based in San Francisco, which will make the competition to Uber.

Although the two applications work the same way, Lyft plans to win customers with an experience centered on it, reported the “Toronto Star”.

“We believe that we are equal with the competition in the arrival times on the price, said Tim Houghton, director general of Lyft in Toronto. Where we differ is in how we treat people. Therefore, whether a passenger, a driver or a regulatory body, we strive to ensure that people are well and fairly treated.”

At launch, Lyft announced that for the month of December, users will be able to join a programme of fundraising for the Hospital for sick children. The cost of races will be rounded to the nearest dollar and the difference will be donated to the cause.
