The dieselgate has been covered off-and-on and yet, it is not at the end of our surprises. In fact, the New York Times has just published a new of a great importance : Volkswagen has used monkeys in the development of its diesel engines.

Volkswagen is part of a group of manufacturers, which are also part BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which has given the mandate to determine the level of pollution of engines fuelled with diesel.

This test consisted of breathing in the fumes of a Volkswagen Beetle to ten crab-eating macaques while they were watching cartoons. The cars were in a room separate from that which contained the monkeys. Pipes connected the two rooms. It is said that the results of the study were not conclusive.

The purpose of the study was to prove that the new engines fuelled with diesel were clean.

Recall that one of the most important scandals in the automotive industry has erupted after it was discovered that Volkswagen cheated about its emissions. As the software of cheating was enabled during the tests carried out with monkeys, the latter would not have been too overwhelmed by the fumes of the diesel.
