An operation targeting the smuggling of contraband tobacco resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of illegal tobacco, Friday, in Montreal.

A search was carried out in the borough of LaSalle, where police have discovered a total of 32 000 contraband cigarettes.

“A person who would be involved in the smuggling and sale of tobacco products illegal in the region of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu was arrested,” said the Sûreté du Québec in a press release.

The suspect could possibly face charges under the Act relating to the tobacco tax.

The operation was conducted by the Division of investigations on the smuggling of the Sûreté du Québec.
