Montreal: the cold and the sun is at the rendez-vous of the 195th défilé de la Saint-Patrick

    MONTREAL | thousands of people attend this Sunday at the 195th parade the St. Patrick’s day in the streets of downtown Montreal.

    The kick-off was given with a slight delay, a little after noon, and the day should end around 15: 30.

    The parade is held on the boulevard De Maisonneuve West this year because of work being carried out on Sainte-Catherine street.

    It is the oldest parade of its kind in Canada and the second largest – behind that of Toronto – with 4000 participants.

    It is composed of a score of floats and marching bands.

    “It is immense,” says the organizer of the parade, Ken Quinn. This is the 195th consecutive year, and the ride is different from that of the past 60 years.”

    Despite the cold, the sun is there to warm up the crowd. “All the world is festive, we are ready to celebrate,” said Mr Quinn.
