DRUMMONDVILLE – The police officers of the Sûreté du Québec seized more than 42 000 contraband cigarettes during a dozen raids that led to the arrest of six persons, in Drummondville.
During 12 raids, which took place on 7 march, police seized more than 42,000 cigarettes, more than $ 5000 and five vehicles used to transport tobacco.
Six people were arrested. They are suspected to be involved in a network of tobacco smuggling, which operated in the region of Drummondville, and could face various charges under the Act relating to the tobacco tax.
“The operation, which is the result of an investigation that began in 2017 with the following information to the public, mobilised some thirty police officers from the investigation Division of the smuggling, of the MRC Drummond and the canine squad,” said the Sûreté du Québec.
