VAT News has obtained the exclusive list of proposals which will be debated during the next congress of the Parti québécois (PQ), which will take place at the beginning of the month of September in Montreal, to lay the foundation of his electoral platform.
The 47th congress will be held from 8 to 10 September in Montreal.
It is a brick: 457 proposals on which members have worked over the last year. Among these last, there are a lot of economic proposals that emanate from the different districts.
Several proposals are of the traditional ideas of the PQ. Among others, members of Two-Mountains to come back with the idea of an election by referendum with a majority of seats. However, this proposal is likely to be beaten, and it is very likely that the Parti québécois will not want to go play in this scenario.
For its part, Laval returns with the idea of lowering the voting age to 16 years. It is an idea that had already been brought in by the government Marois.
As to the francophone nation in North America, we put forward the idea of applying bill 101 to the CPES and subsidized childcare, to amend the charter to all the immigrants that they receive a training in French – an idea that the chef, Jean-François Lisée already proposed during his run for the leadership – and to introduce a test of French in cegeps, English-speaking. These subjects are likely to give good account of discussions at the congress.
In the case of Québec’s economic development, it application, among others, the implementation of a programme of loans and grants for business start-ups and a mentoring program.
Activists of the National Capital are also proposing to create a kind of IKEA in the seven cities where the Quebec offices overseas to promote the sale of products from quebec.
In environment, the members propose to stop the over-exploitation of drinking water for the benefit of multinationals. They are also asking for a fee increase, and a moratorium on projects for oil and gas on the whole of Quebec.
At the congress, Jean-François Lisée will face a vote of confidence. The leader of the PQ is not obliged to submit to this vote, but has chosen to do so.
