The union of engineers of the City of Montreal reported Tuesday a few proposals that they consider relevant, such as the creation of the Office of the engineer general, to make the metropolis a city with more than engineering.

In full municipal election campaign, the Union of professional scientists to practice exclusive Montreal (SPSPEM) proposes the creation of this new position that would have for mission to “ensure that the quotation, planning and the state of engineering at the City of Montreal meet the highest standards of excellence in performing the audits appropriate”.

Engineers remind us that there is close to $ 2 billion per year investment in infrastructure in Montreal, and that with this new Office, it will be possible to make substantial savings.

The SPSPEM is pushing for the creation of a research group on the management of infrastructure projects. “We hope that there are more reflections to minimize impacts on residents, traders and motorists in the assessment of hours of intensive work, by the temporary relocation of the services or by the new technologies of realization of the work”, one reads in the press release.

Finally, the union, which comprises some 450 members (engineers, surveyors, chemists and veterinary surgeons), is of the opinion that the in-house expertise in engineering needs to be strengthened again, including by measures ensuring a better reconciliation of work and family.
