Jury selection began Monday in the trial of the young man accused of the premeditated murder of an employee of a grocery store Maxi in Montreal.
“Twelve jurors will consider the evidence and decide if Randy Tshilumba is guilty or not-guilty of the crime alleged against him”, the judge said Hélène Di Salvo to nearly 400 citizens, summoned for this Monday at the palais de justice of Montreal.
By the end of the day, twelve of them will be chosen, in order to judge Tshilumba, a young man of 21-year-old accused of the murder of Mercy Beaulieu-Patry, a young woman of 20 years.

“[The victim] was stabbed several times at his place of work, a maximum of the rue Papineau,” explained the magistrate.
In total, the Crown represented by ms. Catherine Perreault intends to call a total of 28 witnesses, including two doctors and six sergeant-detectives. It is unclear if the defense plans to present witnesses, since it does not have to open up his game before the end of the Crown’s evidence.
The trial is expected to last five weeks and the first witnesses are expected as early as next week.
Tshilumba is defended by My Philippe Larochelle and Sébastien Chartrand.
