THREE RIVERS | The minister of Transport André Fortin on Friday announced investments of $ 4.8 billion on the roads of Quebec for the period 2018-2020, an increase of $ 200 million compared to the last budget that has nothing to do with the coming elections, he said.
The$ 4.8 billion will be used to repair bridges and infrastructures, to improve the safety of roads, bridges, pedestrian and bicycle paths, in addition to repairing the floor.
“The efforts that have been made in recent years in regards to the improvement of public finances allow us to do that. If we had not made efforts to improve the financial situation of Quebec, it is certain that we could not improve the roads “, said the minister of Transport André Fortin.
A region at the same time…
Neither the envelopes by geographic region or the selected projects have been released, except for the Mauricie, where was held the press conference. Instead, the government has chosen to increase advertisements everywhere in the province as early as next week.
“Our roads, in general, are in better condition than they were before, thanks to all the investment “, said the minister Fortin, speaking of roads in the province.
The minister for Transport, Véronyque Tremblay, has held the same kind of story.
“Since 2006, the general state of roads is improved by more than 16 % in terms of ride. It is important to make that clear, because our roads are more comfortable, and more safe, ” she said.
Network old-fashioned
The spokesperson for the CAA-Quebec Annie Gauthier does not have the expertise to comment on this, but hopes that the investments are sustained.
“We can simply see that the road network has aged or is damaged. Clearly there are expectations for it to be improved, ” she said.
These statements arise, while the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FQM) calls for an increase of funding of the programme of assistance to the local roads, another road network.
Some smaller municipalities do not have the means to repair roads in a pitiful state.
